When we try to be wise in our 20′s, it is usually a repeat of what we have heard or been told. In out 30′s wisdom does not seem to be a necessary choice so we decide to blast away at life and let it all come together. In our 40′s
I attend various high school assemblies during any school year as a part of my mentoring and in years past when I was a faculty member of high schools in 3 different independent school districts. Throwing ipods, cars, clothes, etc. to teens to “make the happy” and not move to aberrant behaviors never has and never will “work.” Research continually tells us that presence trumps presents every time. That is one reason you hear little about quality time with kids will work when quantity time is the need.
What can you do about it this Christmas? Get your Chamber of Commerce involved to provide a community event to train volunteer to offer presence, that is, mentoring to our high school advisory periods.
